4th – 6th April, 2014
Welcome, thank you to all the musicians, students and audiences who helped to make our first year such a great success, we look forward to welcoming many of you again this year. Thanks too, to all of the local businesses and Clare County Council who came on board and helped us to promote traditional music right here in Killaloe and Ballina.
Our 2014 events program is now complete and we encourage you to spend some time reviewing all of the activities we have lined up this year. Our visiting musicians include amongst others, Manus McGuire, John Wynne, Rita Gallagher, Bernie Geraghty, Sean Ryan & Theresa O’Grady, Mickey & Niamh Dunne and Eugene Lambe. We are delighted to welcome back Martin Connolly, Siobhan Peoples and Eileen O’Brien. New this year is the Kincora Cuaird Series which re-visits the old tradition of ‘Cuaird’ which saw the community gather together, often around a blazing hearth, to catch up on the latest news and gossip, tell stories, sing and dance.
Once you’ve had a chance to digest the weekend’s events program we would like to invite you to our welcome traditional music session in the Anchor Inn on Friday 4th April at 5.30pm and help us get the festivities under way. The welcome session will conclude shortly before our first concert, Scanlan’s Songs, a singing celebration marking the publication of the song compositions of Killaloe native Michael Scanlan which will take place in St Flannan’s Cathedral from 7.30pm.
April 2014 marks the 1000 year anniversary of the death of Killaloe’s most famous son King Brian Ború. We are delighted to link up with Killaloe/Ballina2014 group for a month long celebration of the life of our former High King beginning on the 4th of April with the Kincora Traditional Weekend.
OH! and do keep an ear out for the pipe bands….
